Autumn/Winter Trends 2016/17

September is here and Fashion Week is a go. So before we get ahead of ourselves and become excited about the Spring/Summer 2017 trends. Here is a little reminder of whats trending right now. Followers of this season's trends shall embrace their fearlessness when it comes to clothing. With thigh high boots making a comeback, stand-out sweaters stealing the show and evening dresses that scream 'look-at-me!', there is no room for being shy about the way you dress. This season is not for the fainthearted.

Whilst there are many trends on the table. Here are the ones I deem most important.

Velvet

Embrace your inner renaissance woman with the classic evening fabric that is velvet. Although this season, velvet is not for the evening alone. It is making it's mark on jackets, boots, shirts and even chokers, proving to be also daytime wearable. This is THE hottest trend of the season as it can be found on almost every catwalk.

The Modern Twist

This trend is all about creating a contemporary look through traditional fabrics by using unusual silhouettes. Think upper class and updated heritage. Designers have remixed the old with the new here to create this autumn/winter trend.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Calling all mean girls! The colour pink has made it's way into the collections this season and I think it might have something to do with Regina George! As Deputy Editor of British Vogue once said "it's interesting, given the political and sociological contradictions of pink, that designers embrace this colour again and again".

Wild Cats

If you wanna get ahead this season then take a walk on the wild side. Powerful prints have dawned the catwalks of Givenchy, Moschino and Dries Van Noten. From leopards to jaguars, wild cats have made their mark.

Space Age

Metallics, mirrors, sequins and more, the mood at Dolce & Gabanna was futuristic. Whilst over at Michael Kors Collection the high shine materials made the light dance around the room. The colours and fabrics of this trend are both dazzling and electrifying, so much so that it provides us with an excitement for the future.

In The Trenches

For the last couple of years military style has been a prominent trend on the catwalk. It has almost become a staple trend of the Autumn/Winter seasons. But with each year comes new hues. This year the masculinity of the military style has been blurred through feminine detailing such as bows, pom-poms and embroidery.

Endless Summer

Working this years trends into your wardrobe is easier than you think thanks to designers like Céline and Alberta Ferretti who have continued the silk summer lingerie trend effortlessly into autumn. The embroidered denim trend continues on also.

The Eighties

The eighties are back. Padded shoulders at Saint Laurent, city puffa jackets at Balenciaga and parachute pants at Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini. Designers have once again recreated the era on the catwalk through putting a modern twist on retro looks.

At the Ballet

An irresistibly dreamy mix of pleated fabrics that dance with body movement and a colour palette of soft peach and pale pinks embodies a feminine feel of elegance. Designers such as Hermés and Stella McCartney delve into this trend, making us want to indulge in one last ballet class.

Victorian

A clash of the old and the new brings Victorian fashion to new heights. Using old-school silhouettes in fresh ways to create a trend ever so opulent. Cue the great length dresses that take hold of the female body, whimsical ruffles, and sensual high necks. Look to Marc Jacobs and Kenzo for stylish inspiration.

Punkature

What screams punk more than the timeless, badass, grunged-up, biker jacket? Nothing. Designers have revisited this jacket for Autumn/Winter with a box structure at Saint Laurent and delicate jewelry at Alexander McQueen. All of which have been styled to perfection with a feminine twist on hardcore punk.

So there you have it, as the cooler months set in these are the trends that will trickle down from the catwalks, onto the streets and into our wardrobes.
Above all this year, designers have been inspired by the past, they have used this inspiration and put a refreshing contemporary twist on what was once new.
